Do I need a visa for Thailand?
For a stay of up to 60 days, 93 nationalities (including France) are visa-exempt. The exemption covers tourism and short business trips — meetings, seminars, trade shows. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Korea and Peru have 90 days under bilateral agreements. ⚠️ One formality remains mandatory for everyone: the TDAC digital arrival card.
What is the TDAC?
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card has been mandatory since 1 May 2025 for every traveller (visa-exempt or not), to be submitted within 72 hours before arrival. It is free; we complete it and provide the QR code for EUR 29.
How long can I stay without a visa?
Up to 60 days, for tourism as well as short business trips — 90 days for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Korea and Peru. A 30-day extension can be requested on site from immigration, but it is at the officer’s sole discretion: do not build your trip around it. Beyond that, the e-visa (or another visa) is required.
Is there a digital nomad visa?
Yes, the DTV (Destination Thailand Visa): valid 5 years, stays of 180 days per entry, for remote work and "soft power" activities. It has its own dedicated product.
Does a business trip require a visa?
No, not for a short trip. The visa exemption covers tourism and business engagements: meetings, seminars, trade shows and business appointments fall within the exemption, just like a tourist stay and within the same time limit. The Business (B) visa only becomes necessary to work, take up employment or carry out a long-term assignment. You will find sources claiming the opposite: the official announcement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs is explicit on this point.
Can I extend my stay on site?
A 30-day extension can be requested from a Thai immigration office, bringing the stay to 90 days in total. Note: this is not a right. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the extension is at the sole discretion of the immigration officer — do not build your trip around it. Beyond 90 days, another type of visa is required.
What are the penalties for overstaying?
A fine of THB 500 per day, capped at THB 20,000 (i.e. 40 days), payable before you can leave the country. On top of that, an entry ban whose length depends mainly on one point: did you report yourself, or were you arrested? If you report yourself: a 1-year ban beyond 90 days of overstay, 3 years beyond one year, 5 years beyond 3 years, 10 years beyond 5 years. If you are arrested: a 5-year ban for less than one year of overstay, 10 years beyond. In other words, reporting yourself to immigration changes everything.
What must I present on arrival without a visa?
A passport valid at least 6 months from your entry and in good condition (no missing or damaged pages), an onward ticket within the authorised period, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds. And the QR code of your TDAC, required of all travellers.
