Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa for Zanzibar?
Yes. Zanzibar is part of Tanzania: it is the Tanzanian (e-)visa that applies — there is no separate Zanzibar visa. A single e-visa covers mainland Tanzania and the Zanzibar archipelago.
Is Zanzibar insurance mandatory?
Yes, since October 2024: anyone travelling to Zanzibar must take out the government insurance (ZIC), as personal insurance is not accepted. It does not concern the mainland (safaris, Kilimanjaro). We offer it as an option when you order.
How long does the e-visa take?
Usually 3 to 7 business days (sometimes more in high season). We recommend applying about 2 weeks before departure.
Is the national ID card enough?
No: a passport is mandatory (valid 6 months, 2 blank pages). The ID card is not accepted for Tanzania.

The e-Arrival Card is a mandatory digital form to complete within 72h before each entry. We can complete and submit it for you.
Bali tourist levy Bali only
Direct arrivals in Bali are subject to a tourist levy. We can pay and pre-register it for you to avoid the queue on arrival.
Official invitation required
Your nationality requires an official invitation (with a number issued by the authorities) to obtain the e-visa. This number must be entered in the application. It is not a personal invitation from a friend or relative.
If you do not have an official number, your invitation is not valid for the e-visa: choose the option above so that we obtain it.
Repatriation insurance
Covers emergency medical repatriation and medical costs abroad. Certificate sent by email with the confirmation.
Zanzibar insurance Mandatory in Zanzibar
