Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa for Sri Lanka?
You need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization), mandatory before departure — even when it is free. There is no visa to stick in the passport.
Is the Sri Lanka ETA really free?
Yes, since 25 May 2026: the official fees are waived for 40 nationalities, including France. The ETA remains mandatory; only our service fee applies.
Note: this exemption was voted by the Sri Lankan Parliament for one year, with a mid-term review. It runs until 25 May 2027 and may or may not be renewed. We regularly check the status and update this page.
Can I include my children on my application?
The Sri Lankan portal allows group applications, but they frequently fail: a missing child or a data-entry error one time in two. We always submit one application per traveller, whatever the age. Under-12s were already free before May 2026.
I am in transit: do I need an ETA?
A transit visa, also free, exists for stopovers of 2 days or less. Beyond that, or if you leave the transit area to visit the country, the tourist ETA applies.
How long can I stay?
The tourist ETA allows a stay of up to 30 days on a double entry (both entries within the same 30-day period from the first arrival). On the second entry, you are only granted the remainder of the initial 30-day period: the 30 days do not start over. An extension is possible on site, in Colombo (paid).
How long does it take?
The answer usually arrives within 24 to 72 hours, often almost immediately. You can apply up to 3 months before departure.

The e-Arrival Card is a mandatory digital form to complete within 72h before each entry. We can complete and submit it for you.
Bali tourist levy Bali only
Direct arrivals in Bali are subject to a tourist levy. We can pay and pre-register it for you to avoid the queue on arrival.
Official invitation required
Your nationality requires an official invitation (with a number issued by the authorities) to obtain the e-visa. This number must be entered in the application. It is not a personal invitation from a friend or relative.
If you do not have an official number, your invitation is not valid for the e-visa: choose the option above so that we obtain it.
Repatriation insurance
