FAQ

Frequently asked questions

I'm K-ETA-exempt: is it worth applying for one anyway?
Not if you're going to Korea only once: simply fill in the arrival card — it's free and we can file it for you.
But if you travel to Korea regularly, it's different. A K-ETA is valid 3 years, with multiple entries, and its holder is exempt from the arrival card at every entry — it's written in black and white on the official Korean portal. Applying once can save you this formality for three years. It's up to you, depending on how often you travel: we won't push you towards a document you don't need.
Do I need a passport valid for 6 months?
No, and it's a pleasant surprise: South Korea is an exception. France Diplomatie is explicit — a passport that is currently valid is enough; it does not need to remain valid for six months after you leave the country. The only proviso: it must not be torn, damaged or show any anomaly.
How do I avoid fake websites?
France Diplomatie warns that unofficial sites offer the K-ETA at a price well above the reference rate, and some deliver fake documents with no value, which do not allow entry into Korea. Let's be transparent about what you pay: the official K-ETA fee is 10,000 won, about €7, to which the Korean portal adds online payment fees. The rest of our price is our service — checking each piece of information and following up — not the document. You can do it yourself on the official site: we tell you rather than hide it.
Do French nationals need the K-ETA?
No, not for now: French nationals are temporarily exempt from the K-ETA until 31 December 2026. A valid passport is enough for a short stay. After that date, the K-ETA could become mandatory again.
What is the K-ETA?
The K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is an electronic travel authorization, to be obtained before boarding. It is not a visa: it authorises short stays (tourism, visit, business without paid activity) for the nationalities concerned.
How long is the K-ETA valid?
The K-ETA is valid 3 years and allows multiple entries. You don't have to reapply for each trip as long as it (and your passport) remain valid.
My nationality is neither exempt nor eligible for the K-ETA: what should I do?
Your nationality then requires a consular Korean visa, to be applied for directly at the Consulate of South Korea. We do not yet offer assistance for this visa.
